Hot Milk Sponge Cake

For Strawberries

1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Heat milk and butter together until steaming (not boiling). Beat eggs and sugar until very fluffy. Add vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture. Then stir in milk & butter. Pour into two 8″ round ungreased tins. Bake at 350 F for 20 – 25 minutes. Cool in pans for 10 minutes. Loosen edges & invert gently; cool on racks.

TO SERVE: Top each layer with whipped cream & sweetened, sliced strawberries
